The town of Ericeira is one of the most beautiful places to visit. By the beginning of the XIIth century, a small fisherman village filled with traditions became an important stopping point for a lot of commercial maritime routes for the whole country. In 1910, an historic mark took place at one of Ericeira’s beaches – Praia dos Pescadores – the royal family escaped to Brazil due to the republican revolution.
Besides the interesting roles in Portugal’s history, this privileged location attracts millions of visitors from all over the world for other reasons: the wonderful ocean view, amazing beaches and perfect waves. For who is visiting Ericeira a walk in the town is mandatory, the narrow streets full of life with a hospitality environment and the beach mind set makes it the place to be. The beaches with excellent accesses and modern support infrastructures deserve the famousness that they conquered, their natural beauty with rocky cliffs and the clear and intense sea are a delight for everyone
For who loves surfing, Ericeira is one of the best choices without any doubt. It became the 2nd surf world reserve on the 14th of October 2011 because of the quality of the zones, the local biodiversity and the environmental quality. The reserve is located between the beaches of Empa and S.Lourenço, in a 4km coastal line that includes 7 world class waves. However, the surf in Ericeira isn’t just the reserve, we have a variety of other quality waves that include reefbreaks, pointbreaks and beachbreaks. The diversity and quality of the waves concentrated in such a small area turns Ericeira into a unique place in Europe and the World. The excellence conditions and the support of the local community allowed a creation of a culture and local industry related to surf that goes from surfshops, shapers, brands, surfrentals to surfschools. In Ericeira a surfer has everything he needs.
For those who prefer not to surf, there are a lot of other things to do. You can enjoy the seaside walks, horse riding, mini golf, visiting museums and the shops. Not very far, in Mafra, there’s a historical Monastery to visit and the National Preserve. Going south to Sintra is also a great option, the Pena National Palace is stunning.
As soon as the day comes to an end in Ericeira, after you’ve seen one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, we advise our famous gastronomy with a strong influence from the sea (grilled fish and shellfish mostly). You can expect a service of excellence in the numerous restaurants, outdoor cafes and taverns that exist in every corner. After a good meal enjoy the nightlife with the local community and people from all over the world.
